One of the difficulties in #SocialWork is trying to help clients who are reluctant or unwilling to participate in helping themselves.
Resistance is a way of protecting or defending against change and when working with people, resistance is the one thing that is likely to be encountered on a fairly regular basis. Unfortunately, resistance causes conflicts, frustrations, stress, it wastes time, delays progress, and decreases efficiency. Therefore, its important to understand, identify, assess and find ways to reduce different types of resistance wherever possible. So the person dealing with resistance may have to make it the focus of the first intervention.
